It started with one or two sinister requests for black hinges which were met with products like the HES3D-120, a fine architectural hinge with three axis adjustment and a seven link mechanism. But the thirst for the darker side was unquenchable and soon Sugatsune found that it was caught in a frenzy of blackness; hooks, hinges, locks, even drawer slides, all in the colour of the night.
The situation now is that many Sugatsune products are available in black, either off the shelf or by special order. And the range is growing all the time, spreading like a virus through the Sugatsune catalogue.
One advantage to the designer of course, is that a complete range of components can be had in black – even difficult to source items like locks. So a coherent look can be carried throughout the project.
